Muslim Social Services (MSS) is committed to improving human welfare through a variety of social and community services. MSS was established in 2000 in response to a growing demand for programs and services that address the needs and welfare of low-income individuals and families striving to improve their condition. MSS serves as a central point of contact for those needing social services within the Central Florida community.
Emergency Financial Assistance Program (Zakat)
The Zakat Assistance Program provides one-time or short-term assistance for needy persons and families. Assistance is typically used to cover basic needs such as shelter and payment of rent or utilities. Other assistance needs are considered on a case-by-case basis. Assistance is contingent upon the applicant meeting the eligibility requirements of the program and the availability of Zakat funds.
Seeds of Paradise Food Pantry
The Seeds of Paradise Food Pantry provides food to individuals and families in need and operates in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank. Assistance is contingent upon the applicant meeting the eligibility requirements of the program.
Muslim Healing Clinic
The Islamic Society of Central Florida / Muslim Social Services, operates a free health clinic in partnership with the Florida Department of Health. The free health clinic serves low-income uninsured individuals and families, allowing them to receive quality healthcare.
MSS provides information and assistance in applying for government financial, medical and food stamp assistance using the Department of Children & Families ACCESS Program via its work stations at the MSS Center.
MSS offers referrals to other community agencies that may be of assistance to our community members. Referrals are routinely made for health care, legal services, employment, housing, and childcare. Every effort is made to assist each client with available resources.
MSS provides assistance with resume preparation and employment search skills on a regular basis at the MSS Center. MSS staff works with individuals to provide focus in employment searches and discover skills that can cross over to new fields of employment.
Life Skills Workshops
MSS provides Life Skills Workshops on various topics including Preparing A Household Budget and Understanding Your Credit.
Citizenship and Immigration Assistance
MSS provides information and resources on applying for citizenship and basic immigration issues. In addition, MSS refers out cases to immigration attorneys within our community for further assistance.
Car Donation Program
The Car Donation Program is available for eligible applicants who need an automobile to obtain or maintain employment. Applicants for this program must demonstrate need and must currently possess a valid driver’s license. Applicants are placed on a waiting list and contacted when a car becomes available. The donated cars are available “as is”. Recipients of the donated cars are therefore responsible for any repairs required for the vehicles, as well as carrying required insurance.
Community Workshops and Events
MSS sponsors workshops and events that focus on educating the community on issues that affect their daily lives, serve to improve one’s well-being and to strengthen families. Workshops include such topics as Tax Preparation, Financial Investing, Real Estate, Immigration and Citizenship and Healthy Eating.
Adult and Family Literacy Program
The Adult and Family Literacy Program provides English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adults whose native language is other than English . Participants must register for the program in advance as space and classes are limited.
Counseling services are provided by one of the Imams of ISCF or a certified Muslim counselor, depending on an assessment of the situation. These services will be available for individuals and couples who are experiencing difficulties in coping with certain situations, are experiencing marital difficulties or are in abusive situations. Counseling services under this category include individual, family, youth, marriage, separation and divorce resolution, and abuse crisis intervention.
Compassionate Neighbors: Care for the Homeless
MSS programs provide care for the honeless in downtown Orlando. Volunteers prepare and serve meals on a regular basis. Volunteers deliver donated clothing to those in need and provide warm blankets during winter months.
MSS Center Store
Clothing and household items donated to MSS are provided at low-cost to the community to cover the operating expenses of MSS. Individuals and families in need including those seeking employment may also access clothing at no cost based on eligibility. In addtion, clothing is shared with other non-profit organizations to provide valuable resources to the many families in need locally and around the world.
Muslim Social Services gladly accepts your donation of new or gently used clothing and household items. Donations are accepted at the Muslim Social Services Center the 1st Wednesday of every month. Financial donations may be made at any time online, by mail or in person at the MSS Center.
